KITAPO CENTRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Kitapo Center for the Performing Arts will be built on the central peninsula, overlooking the bay formed by the Kafue River. Albeit on a smaller scale, the center for the performing arts will draw inspiration from innovative performance spaces, such as Sydney Opera House, Busan Opera House and Oslo Opera House.

Named after the river goddess of the Kafue, Kitapo, the Performing Arts Centre will have a round stage seating up to two hundred people for Opera, Theatre, Music, Film and Dance performances. It will also be comprised of a rehearsal studio, café, offices, and black box studio.

Although the space will be used for the performing arts, it will also serve as the office space for the real estate development, and be available long term for rental for corporate and private events, acting as a communal space for the development.

Interior spaces at Kitapo including the the café, bar and lounge areas will draw on contemporary African décor. Indeed the entire development will focus on blending modern and traditional elements in a unique expression of African contemporary identity.

Kitapo center for the Performing Arts will be the first of its kind in Zambia, fostering and providing a venue for a new generation of artists in Dance, Theater, Music, Film and Opera and cultivating an audience for the underdeveleoped field of performing arts in Zambia.

The Center will be a venue for both local and international performances, fairs, workshops, exchanges, and exhibitions in art and culture.

OUTDOOR AMPITHEATRE

Built into the natural hills with a view of the water, the Kitapo indoor performance space would be complemented by an outdoor ampitheatre for performances in all genres.
